Mid Day Meal is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 1995 with an objective of improving the nutritional status of children in classes I – VIII in Government, Local Body and Government aided schools, and EGS and AIE centres; The main objective of MDM(mid day meal) Programme in the State is to boost up the Primary Education. Mid Day Meal Programme attracts more parents and children to come to school and in this way it will increase enrolment, attendance, retention and bring down drop-out rate. :) .

In 2007-08 the enrolment was 627596 in both the Primary Schools and EGS Centres( education Guarantee scheme) and in the year 2008-09 it has increased to 737413. There are some more reports from different parts of the State that more children are getting attracted towards school due to the introduction of cooked Mid Day Meal Scheme and attendance also has increased in schools.
Parents of poor children will find less difficulty in sending their children to schools if meal is served to them.
Mid Day Meal with good calorific energy content and increased quantity of proteins in food, is also granted to improve the nutritional status of children.
Mid Day Meal Programme will surely encourage poor children belonging to low sections of the society to attend school more regularly.

Ministry of Human resource said that we are very ashamed of which happened in Bihar should not be repeated anywhere in the country.“concrete measures” will be taken to ensure that meals provide under it are nutritious and cooked hygienically.
Mid day meal is started for the sake of 11 cores children’s . “This programme is of immense benefit for both education and nutrition of children.”

Govt enacted the Right to Education Act to provide every child in the country the opportunity for education. Almost all our children are today being imparted education in Primary schools with the mid day meal which will keep them strong and energetic and they can easily study in the school.
Only problem that we are facing at present is the lack of cemented kitchen-sheds where Mid Day Meal can be cooked and served , but this problem will be solved very soon .
