Time to choose your “YOUTH ICON”
Our nation keeps on distributing “YOUTH ICON” awards every year. But do they actually manage to bring justice to the Award or even comprehend the meaning of a Hero? I have nothing against film stars or politicians. I mean I can give up everything just for a diminutive rendezvous with Robert Pattinson. But he definitely is not the guy; I would want my child (future) to idolize. Obviously Robbie is a talented actor, darn hard worker, gifted musician and looks like some Greek god but he just parrots out somebody else’s lines in a manner directed by somebody else.
I have tremendous respect for this guy with a larger-than-life persona who brought about a revolution in the field of technology. He was a person who not only had the guts to dream big but also had the capability to make his dream come true. Born to a Syrian Muslim father and American Catholic mother, he was put up for adoption since his biological parents could not keep him. He was adopted by a couple without a solid economic or educational background but totally dedicated to their foster child.
He did not complete his college because he did not want his parents to spend all their life savings on his expensive tuition fees. He spent 18 months dropping in on creative classes like calligraphy. And since he was no more a student in that college, he had continue auditing classes sleeping on the floor of his friend’s rooms. That’s not all, in order to make money for everyday expenses including food, he used to return coke bottles for Coke money and when there was no money left, he used to turn to the Hare Krishna temple for free food.
He did not lose heart. He kept on challenging himself and kept pushing all his limits. He started as a technician at Atari, Inc and designed video games; circuit boards etc. then he teamed up with Wozniak and set up their own company. That was the beginning of a new era of computers and operating systems. He is the person behind the most advanced computing system in the world. Well it isn’t necessary to say more about this guy. Steve Jobs himself is a saga. He started from zero but climbed till the top. He fell more than once, but emerged as a stronger man each time. He is a source of inspiration to millions. A HERO in its truest sense.
